Interferon-γ (IFN-γ) is crucial for initiating cellular immunity and promoting the immune system’s ...response against tumors. IFN-γ has the potential to be beneficial as an adjuvant immunotherapy for various types of cancer due to its cytostatic, pro-apoptotic, and antiproliferative properties. The suppression of tumor blood vessel growth is another acknowledged way in which IFN-γ acts against tumors. The secretion of IFN-γ by mesenchymal stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment has been proven to change
the behavior of tumor-associated macrophages. This change shifts them towards an M1 inflammatory phenotype, leading to a decrease in tumor size in a mouse model of neuroblastoma. In the environment of colorectal cancer, the main producers of IFNγ are the T cells and NK cells that invade the tumor.
