Globally, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most prevalent cancer and the fourth most ...common cause of
cancer-related mortality. There is growing recognition of the link between gut microbiome and the development and incidence of CRC. Microbial imbalance influences the pathological processes of CRC, including immune response, apoptosis, and cell proliferation. The gastrointestinal tract and oral cavity are home to the facultative anaerobic, grampositive E. faecalis bacteria. According to a recent study, CRC patients’ stool and surrounding tissues had higher levels of this bacterium. Furthermore, this functions as a
“driver bacteria” in the incidence and progression of CRC and can advance the disease by causing inflammation and facilitating the accumulation of extra mutations and epigenetic modifications.
